Executive Team

JEN

President

What is a mentor?

Jennnifer Sarumi is the President and Chair of the Board for She Geared Organization.

Jen has dedicated a large portion of her life to entrepreneurship, but has noticed a visibly large disconnect between the support and network received in university and the post graduate world. This revelation prompted her to play a larger role in fostering networks and building bridges between young entrepreneurs and programs that will help them succeed.

In her current role with She Geared, Jen is responsible for expanding the organization so as to help more young women develop their ideas and have Ottawa recognize their achievements. Jennifer is also the CEO of The Everything Girls Inc, a concierge business and Cofounder of Select Start Studios Inc., a mobile gaming studio.

As a recent graduate from Carleton University, she has also gained experience through roles at Canadian Council on Africa, Ecosol Solar Technology, and though programs like Junior Team Canada, Mindtrust Leadership Program and Junior Achievements.

AMANADA

VP of Social

What is a mentor?

Amanda’s strong interests in entrepreneurship and social media as well as her background in interactive multimedia and design makes her a perfect fit as She Geared’s VP Social. This position will allow her to leverage social media, not only to educate others about She Geared but also to deliver various tools, tips and insightful information to her fellow She Geared members. Within her role she will fulfill duties to create, maintain and participate in She Geared online communities such as: Facebook, Meetup, LinkedIn and Twitter.

Her soon to be completed degree in Information Technology, Interactive Multimedia and Design at Carleton combined with her expensive experience will allow her to help expand the organization’s social media avenues in hopes of accessing and addressing the needs of more entrepreneurially-geared young women.

MASHA

VP of Marketing

What is a mentor?

The position of VP Marketing presents a challenging new role for Masha. She is a recent graduate of the Carleton University Bachelor of Computer Science program with no experience in Marketing. Nevertheless, what she lacks in formal education, she makes up for with enthusiasm and a contagious interest in innovation.

Masha had her very first taste of running her own project as an Extreme Blue student at IBM Canada. This program allowed her to join a four person team and run a project from beginning to end as an entrepreneurial startup. She currently works at IBM and is always interested in meeting new people, sharing knowledge and exchanging original ideas.

She hopes to fulfill all these interests as the new VP Marketing of She Geared.

YVONNE

VP of Communications

What is a mentor?

Yvonne is VP Social at She Geared. Her passion for communications was reignited when she attended a year long exchange program at the prestigious Sciences Po University in Paris France in 2008. Half through the year, she was accepted into the journalism program, where she worked vigorously with high profile journalists on number of interesting projects.

It was this program that motivated her to pursue a professional career in writing and communications. As a result, she has been blessed with the chance to be able to write and work for a number of print media outlets, allowing her to gain a deeper knowledge of the industry. Furthermore, her internship at MTV Canada introduced her to the world of broadcast journalism, thus broadening her knowledge about the discipline of communications.

As a soon to be graduate from the University of Ottawa, Yvonne realizes how tough and unforgiving the postgraduate world can be to recent graduates. Through She Geared she hopes to help women find the courage within themselves to step out in the postgraduate world and succeed.

ANA

VP of Finance

What is a mentor?

Ana is the VP of Finance at She Geared. Ana was born in the USSR republic of Tajikistan and moved to Russia with her entire family at the age of 7. Although she had a passion for design and planned on applying to the architecture faculty of Polytechnical State University, she was pushed into computer science by her parents. Her family immigrated to Canada and once in Ottawa, she was again convinced to pursue accounting at Carleton University by her father. Although she was persuaded to enroll into accounting, she did extremely well in the program and in 4th year got a job offer from Ernst and Young LLP. She now works as an Assurance and Advisory Business Services as an Auditor.

Ana’s story demonstrates the unpredictable reality of life. She hopes that she can take aspects of her interesting life story and apply it through She Geared to educate and help women who find themselves lost on their career paths.

SANDRA

Events Coordinator

What is a mentor?

Sandra first moved to Ottawa in September 2006 to complete a three-month political internship program at the Laurentian Leadership Centre through Trinity Western University. Sandra enjoyed her stay in Canada so much, that she returned two years later to pursue her undergraduate studies in Commerce at Carleton University. She will also be partaking in a semester abroad in Grenoble, France in January 2010.

Although Sandra is still finishing up her undergraduate degree, she has already gained experience within her field as a participant in the Mindtrust Leadership Program. She is very excited to take part in She Geared and is avid to help develop and promote young women entrepreneurship in Ottawa.

MAWI

Speaker Series Program Coordinator

Malwi is the Speaker Series Program Coordinator for She Geared. She is a recent suma cum laude graduate of Carleton University's Bachelor's of International Business program. Throughout her post secondary career, Mawi was extensively involved with various student groups on Carleton's campus. It all started in her first year when she was the class representative for the Sprott Business Students' Society and the Merchandise Director for SIFE (Student's in Free Enterprise).
